Introduced in 1972 as a successor to the ‘Neue Klasse’ saloon cars, the E12 is the godfather of the BMW 5-series BMW. Top-of-the line was the 6 cylinder 528, of which we are now offering a rare example.
This particular BMW 528 E12 was delivered new in the Netherlands, on the 20th of January 1977. Ordered in the elegant combination of a silver exterior with a blue interior, the carburetted engine was mated to an automatic transmission.

After 44 years, the car is still mostly original, unrestored and in relatively well-preserved condition. The body is still remarkably solid for a BMW of this era, but shows various cosmetic imperfections. Although rust damage is limited at this point, the car will need light repair work in a number of areas, combined with a complete respray. An odometer reading of 235.303 km is supported by a ‘logical’ conclusion from annual RDW registrations.

The car’s blue cloth interior is in good original condition. With a factory steering wheel, a period original radio and undamaged door panels and dashboard, the 528’s interior has been unmolested and well looked after.

Mechanically, the BMW 528 leaves a good impression. The engine runs nicely and the automatic transmission works well. Technical inspection (APK) is valid until 06/2022. Service and maintenance history is unknown. Currently sitting on 4 BBS 16 inch wheels with recent Continental tyres, the car comes with an additional set of original steel wheels.

All in all this is an honest early 5-series, needing a thorough mid-life cosmetic upgrade. E12’s of this spec are rarely offered for sale, making this an interesting opportunity for BMW enthusiasts.
