The Aston Martin DB2/4 Mark III, launched in 1957, was the final evolution of the DB2 line, with 551 examples produced. Bodies were built at Newport Pagnell by Tickford, whose revised front grille—derived from the DB3S—established a new Aston Martin design identity. Power came from the DBA spec 2.9 litre straight six, redesigned by Tadek Marek. In standard form it produced 162 bhp, or 178 bhp with the optional dual exhaust system (as fitted to our car) giving the Mark III improved performance over its predecessors. The model’s refined engineering and styling made it the most developed of the early David Brown GTs and secured its place in Aston Martin heritage. Highlights - Left hand drive example originally registered in the USA in 1957 - One of the first 100 cars produced featuring tailfin rear lamp design - Tickford bodied example, handcrafted in Newport Pagnell - ‘Matching Numbers’ DBA Engine with twin exhaust system Chassis ‘1320’ was originally registered in Santa Monica, California, USA in October of 1957. The vehicle features a ‘Tickford’ body crafted by the newly acquired coachworks in Newport Pagnell. The original engine number DBA/946 is still retained today. Originally finished in ‘Broken White’ with black Connolly hide the vehicle is believed to subsequently be re-painted in its current colour combination of Fiesta Red with Black hide in the USA under a previous owner. The current owner acquired the car in 2008 from New York where is believed to have resided for many years prior. Following 2008 preparation works back in Newport Pagnell the car then scored 2nd place in Concours d’Elegance St Moritz in 2009 and participated in European Targa Florio and Nuvolari road rallies in 2010. The accompanying substantial history file, records detailed maintenance and servicing records over the last 20 years at marque specialists in the USA, Germany and England.
